So, after looking at this blog for a good half an hour this morning, trying to think of something to post, I gave up trying to think of something original and went browsing on the internet for 30 day challenges. I found a lot, some of which I was interested in, and one of which I’m actually going to save because I think it’s pretty awesome. But I did realise something – a lot of those challenges are for a very personal blog, facts about yourself, random things you think, describing places, hope/dreams/desires, blah blah blah.
Now, that’s all well and good, but I’ve done a bunch of that stuff before, in general posts and also in other 30 days challenges that I’ve done before. And since early this year, I’ve streamlined this blog so that it’s less of an online diary, and more about the three core things in my life: writing, dragons and gaming. So hopefully if you’re visiting my blog it’s for one of those three things, and the 30 day challenges I’ve come across aren’t really in that spirit (although if I find a 30 day photo challenge I like, I might do 30 days of dragon pictures!).
So I took a step back, and looked at why I was looking for challenges, and I realised: it’s because I like having a project. I like having something to return to day after day and work on, especially if it’s a small thing every day, or every week that I can come back and update.
So in that spirit, I went and found another 100 Theme Challenge. If you’re a long time reader of my blog, then you will know that I did a 101 Theme Challenge across a number of years and posted all of them here. I really enjoyed that, and I think it really helped with my writing, so I’m going to do it again.
For those of you who’ve never heard of this before, it’s rather simple. You are given 100 (or 101 depending on the exact challenge you pick) words or phrases and then you have to write a short paragraph/extract around each theme. Simple enough. Some people will choose to do all the themes on a single story, but I tend to bounce around all the different stories I have in my head, since it allows me to discover character, settings, and little bits and pieces about the stories that I have yet to get to. I’ve got a notebook where I jot things down in, so even if I don’t get round to a particular story for years, at least I have some notes on it, and this helps develop those notes a little further.
So, my goal for this time round is to be a little more prompt and timely about this challenge. I’m going to aim to write at least two themes each week, and post them up here. I won’t specify days, but at least two each week, which should see me done in a year.
So, without further ado, here are the themes!

First of all PoD I must apologise for losing my ‘follow’ of your blog. I must have hit the follow button again at some stage and unfollowed you. I’ve been really busy recently and it was only yesterday that I discovered I’d had not updates from several of my Blogroll folk.
Well, I’m here now and I’m so impressed by your 100 theme challenge. You’ll stick with it I’m sure and you’ll do well. I will once again be with you now that I’ve got my act together.

I’m just glad you like me enough to follow me again š We’ll see if I keep to my schedule, but I’m doing well so far!

… would this have to include some form of writing, or could it just be a drawn illustration?

I imagine it can be whatever you want it to be! Written or illustrations or photos or whatever takes you fancy, they’re only themes to follow, not ironclad rules!
